Everything people usually ask before joining. Can’t find it? Email ewan@getfriendly.co.uk.
No. GetFriendly is strictly for making platonic friends. There’s no romance, no swiping on looks, and matching is never based on appearance — only on what you genuinely share.
Yes. It’s free to download and join, and messaging the friends you make here is always free — and during our launch every Friendly+ feature is free for everyone too, no payment details needed. Later, Friendly+ becomes an optional subscription (expected £4.99/month or £49.99/year). We’ll tell everyone well in advance, nobody is charged automatically, and nothing you’ve saved is lost.
You’re matched on shared interests, hobbies, values, life stage and how close you are — never on appearance. Each match comes with a plain-English reason, like “you both want to try archery and you’re both new to the area.” No mystery percentages, no endless scroll.
Any adult (18+) who wants more real friends. It’s designed with particular care for the moments that shrink a social circle — new parents, people who’ve just moved, career-changers, the recently retired, and shift or offshore workers with non-standard schedules.
Very. Messages are end-to-end encrypted — we can’t read them. We don’t run ads, track you, or sell your data. Your exact location is never shared; only a general area, and only if you choose. You control whether you’re discoverable and what you show.
GetFriendly is 18+ only, and before you contact anyone new you confirm your email address once — it keeps throwaway accounts away from real people. You can report or block anyone, and our moderation team reviews reports. A suspended account is blocked at login and loses any paid membership. Reporting protects the reporter’s anonymity.
No — deliberately. There’s no feed, no likes, no followers and no influencers. Nothing is designed to keep you scrolling. The whole point is to help you spend less time on a screen and more time with real friends.
Community organisations — charities, community centres, libraries, councils, NHS bodies, support groups — join free as a Verified Community Partner and can host events on the map at no cost. See Communities & charities.
Apply for a verified Friendly Partner account. Setup and verification are free, and organisation accounts are free during our launch. You get a gold pin, self-filling events with waitlists, and check-in-only reviews. See For business.
Now — it’s free on the App Store for iPhone (see Get the app). Android is on the way. We started in Dunblane, central Scotland, and we’re growing town by town.
